The definition, development and application of UPS for marine engineering

Abstract: The Fifth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee raised the development of the marine economy to the height of the national strategy, clearly proposed to improve the capacity of marine development, control and comprehensive management. Marine engineering equipment is the basement of technology and substance for developing and using marine resource, which directly connects with national energy strategy security. On September 16, 2011, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Energy Bureau issued the "Innovative Development Strategy for the Offshore Engineering Equipment Industry (2011-2020)", putting forward the policy that taking advantage of revenue’s benefits and optimizing financial service to support the development of marine engineering related enterprises. Global marine industry market scale is from 35 billion to 45 billion dollar. It is estimated that the annual average market scale will be about 4 billion or 5 billion dollar.

1, The definition of UPS for marine engineering


UPS for marine engineering includes UPS for ships and shore power. UPS for ships should obtained certificate of type approval from China Classification Society. China Classification Society have four strict requirements as below, 1, strengthening mechanical design for three-dimensional vibration, 2, high temperature and high humidity, 3, EMC, 4, minimum protection degree of IP22. The method of using terrestrial power to provide power for moored ships is called "shore technology", when ships are near the docks, all ship diesel power stations will be stopped from operating, and ships will be supplied power by shore power, aiming to lower the exhaust emission in the port. Shore power is divided into high-voltage shore power and low-voltage shore power according to different voltages. High-voltage shore power supply means 10KV/50Hz city power is converted to 6.6KV/60Hz and directly supplied to ship. Low-voltage shore power supply means 10KV/50Hz city power is converted to 440V/60Hz and directly supplied to ship.


2, The development and application of UPS for marine engineering

The appearance of UPS for ships and shore power, UPS for ships meet the electrical guarantee demand of ships, offshore platforms and related special environment. Navigation system, emergency illumination system, life-saving system, IT equipment and telecommunication system in offshore platforms and ships have higher requirements for the stability and reliability of power supply system.

 

In2006,EU proposed and agreed the bill that every port in participate countries of EU should be supplied power by shore power(2006/339/EC), also suggested favorable policies on shore power using, international standards on shore power were set up, promoted using shore power and communicated experiences with each other. In order to strengthen energy-saving in port industry, transportation department clearly stated that in the end of “the twelfth five-year”, at least half of ports all around country provide shore power, popularize shore power using by ships is one of important works. Ship power grid is directly supplied power by port power grid in lots of shore power project in foreign countries, which does not relate to frequency conversion technology. Shore power frequency in our port is 50Hz, while 60Hz AC is the right frequency for supplying power for ship, in order to make it suitable for our condition of shore , we select electronic conversion technology .


The link of marine engineering industry includes marine engineering equipment design, marine engineering equipment manufacturing and oil service, which can be further divided into marine engineering design, original material, supporting equipment, auxiliary ship, platform construction, project contract and drilling service.

Marine engineering equipment enterprises will open a new chapter of gaining and growing after experiencing hardship time.
