With the great amounts of application of UPS in various industries, people are still worrying about the reliability of UPS. How to manufacture high reliability UPS, it is a question that has been discussed a lot. Above all the factors, only one of them can be found in the criteria. In IEC62040-2-2005 from electromagnetic compatibility, UPS are divided into 4 categories, which are C1、C2、C3、C4, respectively means residential area, commercial zone, Light industrial zone, industrial zone, special custom zone.


In the aspect of environment, UPS of commercial degree is applied in machine room of IDC normally, it has strict requirements for temperature, humidity, dust and corrosive gas, it can’t be used in harsh situation, while industrial UPS can be used in the environment of high temperature, High temperature, high humidity, multiple dust or salt fog. In the aspect of reliability, the design life of UPS of commercial degree is about 5 years, while industrial UPS lasts 20 years though selecting industrial or military devices, increasing redundancy, strengthening technological design and improving security configuration. How to make high-reliable UPS? Its reliability is the capability of fulfilling required function under specific condition and time. The technology of product is regarded as an index of measuring the quality of UPS, this only reflects a minor aspect that if the quality is good or not, yet it can’t reflect the main aspect of the product. This is because the best technology does not work if UPS is not reliable, in some point, the reliability comprehensively reflects the quality of product. In order to make high reliability UPS, the following two points are particularly important:

1, Mature design and develop of product. The essence of reliability is reliable design, only through reliable design can improve product quality. The improvement of reliability mainly concentrates on the stage before develop, research, and stereotype. As for industrial UPS, we need amounts of industrial electrical environment data and load data to verify adaptability of various main circuits, reasonable layout of PCB, and EMC of sample and finished product. Any problems of EMC consist of three elements, which are interference sources, sensitive sources, and coupling paths. Problem of EMC would not exist without any one of these elements. We should start with one three elements when solve the problem of EMC, figure out what exactly are these elements, then take measures to eliminate one of them according to specific situation. Thus EMI and EMS of products conform to the standards, and make sure reliable operation in corresponded electrical environment. The environment of UPS using is becoming increasingly harsh, from tropical to frigid, from land to ocean, from high altitude to cosmic space, it is subjected to different environmental conditions. Beside humidity and temperature, the possibility of product failure will also increase due to Salt fog, impulse and vibration.
