Damped AC technique based on resonant principle and supplied by capacitor banks for partial discharge detection and location in power cables

It is essential to detect partial discharge to ensure the integrity of the cable insulation. A technique to generate damped AC voltage using traditional frequency-turned resonant system and additional bi-directional solid-state switches is proposed. To reduce the transient high current absorb from the networks, capacitor banks are adopted to supply the system. Parameter estimation and simulation by Simulink are conducted to evaluate the manufacturing process of the system. Laboratory tests show the validity and effectivenss of the proposed technique. (from magazine Electrotechnical Application 6/2019 on theoretical analysis.)
